Coweta County Schools allows employees to elect short term disability through Lincoln Financial.

Employees can select a benefit equal to either 50% or 60% of pre-disability earnings. The maximum Short-term benefit is $1,250 per week. With the benefit amounts set as a percentage of earnings, disability protection keeps up with income changes.

Monthly Rates

Rates are based on the benefit option elected and the amount of weekly benefit,

  • 50% Option = $0.408 per $10.00 of weekly benefit
  • 60% Option = $0.424 per $10.00 of weekly benefit

Plan Details

Benefits begin the eighth day of disability due to an accident or sickness

Benefits are payable as long as disabled, up to 180 days with Maternity Benefits are paid the same as for an illness

Disabilities caused by pre-existing conditions are not covered, unless the disability begins more than 12 months after the effective date of coverage

No benefit will be paid for on-the-job injury or if you are collecting Workers Compensation, likewise, no benefit will be paid if you are receiving sick leave, sick bank pay or salary continuation (employees can select to receive sick pay or disability benefits, but not both).

Evidence of Insurability

Employees electing Short-term Disability coverage for the first time during Annual Enrollment periods, will need to complete and submit an evidence of insurability for underwriting approval.  In addition, any benefit will be subject to the pre-existing condition limitation*.

Pre-existing Limitation

A pre-existing illness is defined as an illness or injury for which the insured has received advice, treatment medication or consultation during the 12 months preceding the effective date.  The pre-existing limitation provides that STD benefits are not paid for a disability caused by a pre-existing condition for the first 12 months from the effective date.  This also applies to new employees.
